Who Can Apply

Becoming a medical resident in British Columbia means satisfying requirements from the Medical Council of Canada, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia, the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) and the home institution (University of British Columbia or Simon Fraser University).

Graduates of a medical school outside of Canada, graduates of a U.S. osteopathic medical school, and graduates of a U.S. allopathic medical school with a graduation date of July 1, 2025 or after are considered International Medical Graduates, and can apply to become medical residents in B.C. through CaRMS. When applying to CaRMS, you will be asked to demonstrate your citizenship status.
